The Philippine Coconut Story: Tragedy and Hope
The book whose time has come
The Philippine Coconut Story: Tragedy and Hope, a compelling new book by author Charles Avila, with Edicio Dela Torre, is set to be launched on the 27th of February at the 6th Floor of the Emerald Mansion, Ortigas Road, Pasig City.
This comprehensive work shines a spotlight on the history, major events, and present situation of the industry and its impact on its stakeholders.
“The story of the coconut in the Philippines is a story that must be told. We will not be able to understand the present condition of the coconut in the Philippines unless we are aware of its history”, Dr. Toby Dayrit said in the book’s foreword.
Avila, for his part, said, “This book is not only a tribute to the resilience of Filipino coconut farmers but also an urgent call for a more just and sustainable future for them. The Philippine coconut industry holds tremendous potential for growth, but it must be
guided by a framework that values the people who make it thrive.”
Charles Avila and Edicio Dela Torre are long-time farmer leaders, educators, and stalwart supporters of the coconut industry. They have seen how crucial the coconut’s role is in the national economy and the abolition of poverty among a big majority of the rural folk. At the same time, they saw the need for material that could be used both for popular education, and deeper discussion among scholars and policymakers. Their answer is “The Philippine Coconut Story: Tragedy and Hope.”
The Tagalog version will be released afterward.  For bulk orders, email gardenerstales@gmailcom.

Sidebar: It is with hope that the readers find the usefulness of the book that benefits not just the coconut farmers but for the country at the present time. The content of the book has all the ‘formula’ that could serve as the coconut industry strategy.

THE TREE OF LIFE AWARDS

In addition to the much-anticipated launch of the book, the event will also unveil the inaugural award designed to recognize individuals whose exceptional contributions have significantly advanced the cause of coconut farmers and played a pivotal role in the development of the coconut industry—a cause that remains a crucial agenda for our nation.
